In May 2015, a new Registrar was appointed to the Trademarks Patents and Designs Registry in Nigeria. The new Registrar, Mr.Olusegun Adeyemi Adekunle replaced Mrs. Nima Salman Mann and held his first meeting with trademark agents on May 19th, 2015.

The Registry, which is part of the Federal Ministry of Industry Trade and Investment in Nigeria also released two editions of the Industrial Property Automated Systems (IPAS) Journals (Trademarks, Patents and Designs Journal Vol.1 No.1 and Vol. 1 No. 2). Both volumes of the Trademark Journals include a table of content of the trademarks published.

The Trademark Journals cover applications filed manually in Nigeria and are dated May 18, 2015.

Pursuant to section 19 of the Trademark Act, the Trademarks Registry in Nigeria through the publication of these trademark journals gives notice to the public that applications have been received for registration of the marks contained in Trademarks, Patents and Designs Journal Vol.1 No.1 and Vol. 1 No. 2.

Any person who has grounds of opposition to the registration of any of the marks advertised has two months from May 18, 2015 to register their opposition.

Such notice should be filed in writing (in duplicate) and set out the grounds for opposition.

The Journals contain marks published in Classes 1-34 of schedule 4, and service marks in classes 35-45.
