The Executive Director of the EUIPO, Christian Archambeau, earlier today released a video update on the current situation at the Office.
Mr. Archambeau underlined today’s publication of the Guidance Note on the end of the extension of time limits, to assist users. “As this blanket extension comes to an end on the 18th of May, the office has published today a note that provides users with all the information they need if they still face operational and financial difficulties due to the pandemic“, he said.
He also updated users on the Office’s successful use of videoconferencing during the current COVID-19 crisis, and confirmed that the first virtual Stakeholder Quality Assurance Panel meetings will begin next month.
According to him, the Office will hold a special webinar on the 19th of May at 11AM Central European Summer Time. The webinar will explain the available means of coping with time limits if the parties before the Office face difficulty and need extension or suspension or continuation of proceeding.
EUIPO’s staff have been teleworking since March 16, in accordance with the state of emergency declared by the Spanish government. Mr. Archambeau gave details on the first phase of the Office’s return plan, to be carried out in full compliance with health and safety advice.
