U.S. News | Kim Kardashian West Opposes KKW Trademark Registration

intellectual Property

Late August, Kim Kardashian West filed an opposition at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) opposing a Chinese company’s trademark registration for the initials ‘KKW’

The mark was applied in July by Xiamen Luo feng Technology in class 9 for goods and services including boom boxes, mobile phone cases, headphones, sunglasses and megaphones.

Kim Kardashian West reportedly said that the mark would infringe, cause confusion and dilute the distinctiveness of a number of her existing trademarks, ‘Kim Kardashian West’ and ‘KKW’.

Kim Kardashian West and KKW are the names of the beauty brand she launched in 2017.

Kim Kardashian West reportedly said her KKW brand has been in use more than a year after Xiamen Luo feng Technology claimed date of first use in October 2018.

Kim Kardashian West reportedly argued that her registered trademarks had been used to promote goods which were identical to those covered by the applied-for mark.

According to her, consumers are likely to get confused associating her own trademarks with those applying for the mark.
