This article is part of a series that highlights a few trademarks filed in Nigeria. Specifically, this issue highlights trademark applications filed in May 2017.

Venus Williams Applies to Trademark her Fashion Label “Eleven Design” in Classes  18 and 25 in Nigeria

elevenVenus Williams has filed applications for the registration of the mark “ELEVEN” at the Trademarks, Patents and Designs Registry in Abuja.  The applications were lodged on May 5, 2017.

The application in Class 18 covers ‘Bookbags, carry all bags, tote bags, handbags, messenger bags, overnight bags, duffel bags and backpacks”.

The application in Class 25 covers athletic wear and other related products in Class 25 .

The application is currently awaiting the Registrar’s decision.

MTN Nigeria Communications Limited Applies to Register “MyTunez”, “NameTunez”, “Personalized NameTunez” and more, all  in Classes 35, 38 and 42 in Nigeria

The month of May was a busy month for MTN Nigeria Communications Limited in terms of the number of trademark applications the company. MTN filed multiple applications for the registration of the following marks:

  • MyTunez
  • NameTunez
  • Personalized NameTunez
  • Personalized Professional Tunez
  • Special Movement
  • Inspirational Tunez
  • XtraValue in Class 16
  • Signature  bundles in Class 16

The majority of the marks were filed in Classes 35, 38 and 42 and were lodged on May 10, 2017 and have been accepted by the Trademarks Registry.

The Procter & Gamble Company Applies to Register a Logo for air in Class 5 in Nigeria

airThe Procter & Gamble Company has lodged an application to register a device for air at the Trademarks, Patents and Designs Registry in Abuja.  The application for the registration was filed on May 10, 2017 and covers “disposable diapers and/or pants made of paper and/or cellulose” in Class 5.

The application is currently awaiting the Registrar’s decision in Nigeria.

PepsiCo, Inc. Applies to Register “THERE’S NO FEELING LIKE DOING” in Nigeria

PepsiCo, Inc. has filed an application to register “there’s no feeling like doing” in Nigeria. The application was filed on May 12, 2017 and covers “non-alcoholic beverages; fruit beverages and fruit juices” in Class 32.

The trademark appears to be part of the ““Do the DEW” campaign, which kicked-off earlier this year and centers around the “”there’s no feeling like doing”.

The marks are currently awaiting the Trademark Registrar’s decision.

JOHNSON & JOHNSON Applies to Register “Nursprana”, “Templento”, “Erfandel” and more, all  in Class 5 in Nigeria

Like MTN, JOHNSON & JOHNSON had a busy trademark filing month. The company lodged several trademark applications all in Class 5 in Nigeria. Some of the applications filed are listed below:

  • Nursprana
  • Templento
  • Delomtra
  • Teltarga
  • Erfandel

The applications were filed between May 9 to 25, 2017. While some of the applications have been are accepted by the registry, others and are currently awaiting the Trademark Registrar’s decision.
