Trademark Registration Update: Nigeria’s Registry Allows for Online Application for Certificates

Newsroom

May 9 2015 — Nigeria’s Trademark registry has introduced a more convenient way for applicants to apply for Online Trademark Certificates. This new method applies to trademark applications with valid Online Application ID (OAI)/transaction ID as displayed on acknowledgment or acceptance documents.

Before an application can be filed, it must also be duly published in Trademark Journals issued by the Registry and must have successfully passed the opposition process. According to the registry, an applicant can confirm whether or not an application has passed the opposition stage by checking that the online status either reads “not-opposed” or “certified”.
