Three Shops Sealed in Maiduguri over Harmful Pesticides

Three shops in the Borno State metropolis have been sealed-off by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The shops were sealed for allegedly selling contaminated cosmetics, harmful pesticides, herbicides and unwholesome chemicals.

Speaking about the incident, Malam Nasiru Mato, the Zonal Director of NAFDAC disclosed that after preliminary investigation, a number of products identified in the stores including body lotions, shampoo, lipsticks, and other cosmetics were found to contain chemicals that could potentially lead to skin cancer and other related diseases.

The Zonal Director reiterated the agency’s mission to tackle all discrepancies and ensure that all distributors adhere to its regulations and guidelines relating to products that are suitable for the Nigerian Market.
