NIRA Publishes Domain Names Registration Data for Last Quarter of 2016

The registry body for. ng domains in Nigeria — Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) recently published data on domain name registrations and renewals in Nigeria for October, November, and December 2016.

According to NiRA, data over the last few years have shown that it is typical for there to be an increase in Domain Name Registrations and Renewals at the Registry in the last months of the year. The filings and registration at the end of 2016 followed the same pattern.

NIRA Registration Statistics

The report compares domain purchases, renewals and transfers from October to December 2016 with the numbers from 2014 and 2015. The report shows a significant increase in 2016. For example, it shows that in December 2016, the number of domain names registered and renewed were 4,381 compared with the 2,846 registered in December 2015. That is almost twice the number from the previous year. Similar numbers apply to the domain names registered and renewed in October and November 2016 when compared with the previous year.
