Nigerian News | Medical Doctor Slams N100m Suit against EHealth Africa Over Copyright Violation

Ehealth Africa, a consultant with Bill and Malinda Gate Foundation in Nigeria has been dragged to court by a medical doctor in Sokoto state, Dr. Aminu Shehu over alleged copyright violation.

Dr. Aminu Shehu claims that he is the original owner of a literary work “Supervising Every Team” (SET) which he created since 2013 and registered by Nigeria Copyright Commission with registration number LW3590.

Shehu stated that the literary work was used in supervising and monitoring polio vaccination staff in every location in order to ascertain their authenticity as trained staff.

According to Shehu, he alleged that he made presentations of his literary work in Kano and Abuja during incident managers’ review meeting.

The plaintiff allege that the defendant was present at the incident managers’ review meeting where he presented his idea which was copied and infringed upon by the defendant.

The plaintiff seek the Federal High Court, sitting in Sokoto, to declare him the original owner of the registered literary work and the acts done or permitted to be done by the defendant, in the use of SET without his consent, permission or authorization as an act of infringement of the copyright as the case is billed for mentioning December 11th, 2018.

The plaintiff also sought an order of injunction restraining the defendant forthwith whether by itself, servants, agents and privies from further infringing on his right.

The plaintiff slams the defendant N100 million as general damages for infringing on its work without permission.
