In a bid to regulate products and safeguard the life of the citizenry, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has arrested some workers and shut down a sachet water factory in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State due to unhygienic conditions of the factory.

The NAFDAC Coordinator in Rivers State, Chinelo Ejeh disclosed that the factory was found packaging water directly from bore hole without any form of treatment. He further stated that the factory were found in dingy rooms within live-in apartments in close proximity to toilets and dirty drainage channels which is dangerous to the health of Nigerians.

“The Agency is also appealing to members of the public to always avail NAFDAC of information regarding illegal producers of regulated products and I therefore call on other sachet water producers still involved in illegal packaging in unhygienic conditions to desist from such unwholesome practice or be ready to face the wrath of the law,” Chinelo said.

She expressed NAFDAC’s commitment to protect the Nigerian Public.
