The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is alerting Nigerians against consumption of TL Tan Lung and TLC brands of canned sardine.

The alert was disclosed early last week in Abuja by the Director-General of NAFDAC,Professor Moji Adeyeye. According to her, TL Tan Lung and TLC brands were produced by Chinese companies known as Fujian Yongfa Co. Ltd, and Dongshan Dongyi Food Co. Ltd., respectively which have been recalled by the Malaysian Ministry of Health on April 20, 2018 in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia due to presence of nematode parasitic worms in the products.

The recall was due to the non-compliance of the brand with the standards set by 1983 Food Act and was recalled so it doesn’t have hamper effect on its consumers.

The recall in Malaysia also takes effect in Nigeria in order to secure the wellbeing of Nigerians due to the presence of nematode parasitic worms found in the products.

Adeyeye further stressed the need for all importers to desist from importing the affected canned sardines into the country and plea for the submission of the canned products in possession of anyone at nearest NAFDAC Office for destruction.

In the same vein, NAFDAC has advised Nigerians to report all adverse events resulting from the use of these products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
