The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians on the illegal manufacturing, distribution and sale of falsified Costrim Tablets, Metronidazole Tablets, Domiquine Tablets, Catrim Tablets, Cemtrim 480 Tablets and Citrim 480 Tablets by one Mr. Emeka Madu (aka Cabara).
According to NAFDAC, the products are labelled with fake NAFDAC Registration Numbers in order to deceive Nigerians that the drugs are authentic. NAFDAC states that the products are falsely labelled with the names of different manufacturers.
The alleged manufacturer of these products, Mr. Emeka Madu, according to NAFDAC manufactures the fake drugs in an uncompleted and dilapidated twin building at Ikotun, Lagos.
The illegal factory was discovered by the the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Rapid Team (IGP-IRT) after an informant was received.
NAFDAC and the Police jointly visited the production site where samples were taken for testing and processing after which it was discovered that the both the site and the drugs were not registered by NAFDAC.

NAFDAC warns that the use of this falsified drugs would lead to treatment failures, development of drug resistance or even death and urges Nigerians to be vigilant and report anyone in possession of these medicines while also imploring the distributors, wholesalers, retailers, healthcare providers, program managers to desist from selling these drugs.
