Nigeria: New Trademarks Journal Published dated November 24 2017

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment recently announced the commencement of the circulation of  a new Trademarks Journal. The Journal titled Trademarks Journal, Volume 2, No. 1 of 2017 is dated November 24, 2017 and covers marks filed manually at the trademarks registry.

The Deadline for filing oppositions to applications published in this new trademarks journal is January 24, 2018.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, which has been handling the issue of Patents Design through its Commercial Law Department has also directed that applicants who have pending Certificates on Patents Design to collect can come forward to collect same, but these will be without ribbons.

According to a press release signed by one Oyetomi Olujimi from Ministry, in order to procure a copy of the Trademarks Journal, users will have to pay N21,000 into Government Coffers through the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

The Ministry further designated William K. Amuga as the Ministry’s Contact person to coordinate the circulation of the Journal. William K. Amuga can be reached through 08035374183 or through the Office of the Registrar-General/Director, Commercial Law Department of Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.



Pursuant to section 19 of the Trademark Act, the Trademarks Registry in Nigeria through the publication of this trademark journal gives notice to the public that applications have been received for registration of the marks contained in Trademarks Journal, Volume 2, No. 1 of 2017

Any person who has grounds of opposition to the registration of any of the marks advertised in the journal has two months from November 24, 2017 to register their opposition.

Such notice should be filed in writing (in duplicate) and set out the grounds for opposition.
