NCC Impounds N8.5 Million Literary Works

An estimated total of Eight Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N8, 500,000.00) worth of suspected pirated literary works were impounded recently by the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in Ajegunle area of Lagos State. The Literary works amounting to 17,000 copies which belong to various right owners were seized during an enforcement operation carried out on January 13, 2014.

Deputy Director, Enforcement Lagos Office, Mr. M. D. A. Ojo who led the operation disclosed in a report that Enforcement officers of the Commission with the support of armed Policemen men carried out the raid.

He gave the names of the major samples of the books seized as: The Accidental Public Servant by El-Rufia; The 100 days of Abacha By Olusegun Adeniyi; Vessel of Vision by John Nwabueze; Senior Secondary Atlas (Longman); Senior Secondary Certificate Practical Physics (Learn Africa); Modular English course for Primary Schools book 6 (Evans); Macmillian Basic Science and Technology Primary book 1.

Others include: Junior English Project for senior secondary schools (Person/Longman); Essential Economics (Tonad); Quantitative Reasoning (Literature Pub.); Managing your Emotions (Joyce Meyer); Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; Unshakable Faith by Rick Joyner; Mastering steps to Alphabet for Beginners (Metropolitan Publishers ltd); Steps to good handwriting book 3 (Metropolitan Publishers ltd) and Atlantic English for Nursery Schools by Ali Okunade.

He assured that the Commission has commenced investigations and that offenders will be arrested and prosecuted promptly.
