NCC Impounds N23M worth Broadcast Materials in Enugu | Copyright Commission


Operatives of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, (NCC) have impounded suspected pirated copyright materials worth N23.5 million (Twenty three million, five hundred thousand Naira) in raids carried out on October 9 and 11 respectively in Parts of Enugu State.  A document signed by Mcfoy Akachukwu, leader of the operations, states that the raids were executed to check broadcast piracy in parts of Enugu State such as Asata, Uwani, Achara Layout and Agbani Road. The document explained that the raid was undertaken sequel to a complaint by Mr. Gozie Onumonu, the anti-piracy Manager of Multichoice.

According to the report, the NCC Operatives backed by officers of the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) seized a number of items used in the illegal redistribution of Multichoice signals.

Items recovered during the operations include: 3 Humax decoders, 1 DSTV Decoder, 20 Strong decoders, 3AD/Sport smart cards, 1 Aljazeera smart card, 4 cash receipt booklets, 3 cash record books and 3 remote controls. Others are Wires, Splitters, Amplifiers and Boosters.

The report states that further investigation has commenced to enable the Commission prosecute the offenders.
