NAFDAC Warns Against Use of Agro-chemicals on Grains

Health they say is wealth, no wonder the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Christiana Mojisola Adeyeye, has made a clarion call to Nigerians to desist from the harmful practice of spraying agro-chemicals such as Sniper on beans and other grains.

“Agro-chemicals should be properly applied with caution, such that they do not come into direct contact with the commodity. This is to prevent contamination of such food products, which could constitute danger to health” Adeyeye said.

Adeyeye admonished the public to be careful and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC Office.

The Director General of Consumer Protection Council (CPC) stated that a pesticide named 2,2-dichlorovinyl phosphate (DDVD) compound, otherwise known as Sniper, is mostly used by retailers in open market to preserve beans and to eliminate weevils.

There is therefore need to address this menace in order to keep the lives of Nigerians safe and healthy. The council is collaborating with other relevant regulators to address this emergent situation.
