NAFDAC Notifies the Public of Voluntary Recall of One Lot of GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Time Release 180 Count Dietary Supplement

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is notifying the Nigerian public of the voluntary recall of one Lot of GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Time Release Dietary Supplement sold in 180 count containers. The product was recalled due to the fact that it may contain undeclared major food allergen- milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious life threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The affected product was distributed starting in August 23, 2016 through the present and is packaged in an HDPE plastic bottle with a child resistant closure. The lot number is found on the bottom of the product box and the side panel of the product label. See the press release for a picture of the product box.

Last November, Nutra Manufacturing, Inc. issued a press release announcing the nationwide voluntary recall of this product. The company stated that GNC is working with Nutra on the voluntary recall by removing the specified product from retail store shelves.

This recall involves only GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Time Release 180 count with the lot number 3044FQ2024. The lot number can be found on the bottom of the product box and the side panel of the product label. No other GNC brand products or lots are part of the recall. The problem was discovered by Nutra at its manufacturing facility. There have been no cases of persons with milk allergies reporting reactions to the product. The affected product was distributed starting in August 23, 2016 through the present and is packaged in an HDPE plastic bottle with a child resistant closure, Nutra Manufacturing stated in the press release.

The recall was also published on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website.

NAFDAC recommends that adverse events associated with the use of this product should be reported to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFADC PRASCOR (20543 TOLL FREE from all networks) or via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng
