Last Week, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) destroyed fake and expired drugs and unwholesome products worth N80 million at a site in Kuje, FCT – Abuja.
The Director-General of the agency, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, said the products were seized in the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State. She further said that some of the expired products were willfully handed over to NAFDAC by the owners while others were seized through operations by the agency.
“This periodic exercise further gives credence to the fact that NAFDAC is continuously waging war against counterfeiting and faking of regulated products. We will continue to work relentlessly to ensure that this incidence is reduced to the barest minimum and only safe, efficacious and wholesome regulated products are available to the populace,” she said.
Adeyeye went further to say that those involved in selling fake and substandard drugs were convicted by the agency, adding that while some have been prosecuted, others were facing trials in court.
She therefore, commended the other government agencies like Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Custom Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), among others, for their support.
The Director – General assured Nigerians that the agency would continue steadfastly in tacking this menace in the Country.
