The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated cartons of fake hand sanitizers worth N350,000 in some supermarkets and drug retail outlets in Bauchi State.
The State Coordinator of NAFDAC, Mohammed Muazu reportedly said that the items were confiscated following a raid on some shops and drug outlets in the state.
Muazu reportedly said that the raid was following a directive from the Enforcement Directorate of the agency.
Muazu reportedly said that out of thirteen brands of the fake sanitizers seized, eleven were manufactured in Kano State while two were produced in Bauchi State.
Muazu reportedly said that the agency had commenced monitoring exercise and investigation to identify the manufacturers and apprehend the culprits to face the full wrath of the law.
Muazu reportedly explored the public to always check the NAFDAC Numbers, Batch Numbers, Manufacturing, and Expiry dates of food, drugs, and medical consumables before purchasing the product.
According to Muazu, the quality of unregistered hand sanitizers cannot be guaranteed by the Agency and may pose health challenges to the user of this product.
The agency admonishes the public to be vigilant and report cases of counterfeiting to the Agency.
