NAFDAC Alert: Outbreak of Salmonella Agona Infections Linked to Internationally Distributed Full Cream Milk Powder

ALERT

According to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) the agency has received information that French authorities have requested the withdrawal and recall of all infant milk powder, cereals and specialized nutrition products produced at one of Lactalis Group Factories.

The recall is due to an outbreak of Salmonella Agona infections in France among infants less than 6 months of age. The outbreak has occurred over several months, dating from August 2017 – January 2018. Investigations in France linked the illnesses to the consumption of infant formula produced by the Lactalis Group.

Five (5) batches of Lactel Instant Full Cream milk powder produced by the manufacturer where imported in to Nigeria. The details of the batches imported into Nigeria are as follows:

Distributors and wholesalers in possession of the affected products are advised to immediately stop their sale and submit them to the nearest NAFDAC office.

The members of the public are implored to be more vigilant and contact the nearest NAFDAC office anytime they have information on the affected

Healthcare providers and Consumers are encouraged to report cases of illnesses associated with the consumption of the affected products to the nearest NAFDAC office, NAFDAC PRASCOR (20543 TOLL FREE from all networks) or via pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng
