MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of DSTV, recently hosted an enforcement training for officers of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC). The training, which was organized in conjunction with the Enforcement Department of the Commission addressed a number of broadcast piracy topics including cable piracy, grey market piracy, SUD and MUD piracy, public screening piracy, commercial piracy, re-broadcasting piracy, criminal prosecution, case management, electronic counter measures and internet streaming piracy.
Speaking during the training, the Anti-piracy Manager of MultiChoice Nigeria and facilitator of the workshop, Mr. Umar Abdulaziz-Ibrahim, disclosed that it was aimed at enlightening and educating staff of the Commission on contemporary issues in broadcast piracy. According to him, the anti-piracy raids conducted by the NCC over the years has boosted the sales of DSTV in Nigeria.
The Director General, NCC, Mr. Afam Ezekude represented by the Director of Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Augustine Amodu in his response thanked MultiChoice for organizing the training as it provided a forum for brainstorming and learning to improve the fight against piracy.
The training also included a Questions and Answers session where challenging issues in broadcast piracy were addressed and practical approaches in surveillance and identification of infringing targets shared.
