- Iyaji v. Eyigebe (1987) – This case was cited in Compact Disc Technologies Ltd. v. Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria to show that where no issue is raised in respect of a particular ground of appeal, the said ground of appeal is at large and deemed abandoned, and ought to be discountenanced and struck out.
- Oguma v. International Bank for West Africa (IBWA) – This case was cited in Nabisco Inc. v. Allied Biscuits Company Ltd. to show that if a prayer is beyond variation of the reasons and goes substantially to the facts and the law leading to the judgment in such a way as to alter the raison d’etre of the judgment, the respondent would be better off with a cross-appeal
- Osafile v. Paul Odi (1990) – This case was cited in Nigerian Bottling Company v. Demola Olarewaju to show that if a statement of defence only contains a traverse that the defendant is not in a position to deny or admit the claims of the plaintiff, the traverse would be held to be insufficient.
