Funds threaten NAFDAC’s, institute’s plan to conduct HIV herbal tests by Chukwuma Muanya

Plans by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) to verify herbal cure claims after clinical trials is being threatened by lack of funds.  NAFDAC in collaboration with NIPRD had in April this year set up a scientific committee made up of researchers and practitioners to probe the authenticity of several herbal claims of cure for hitherto incurable diseases like cancer, diabetes, hypertension, Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
