Dubai News | Thousands of Counterfeit Products Seized in Abu Dhabi


Between May and August, more than 9,000 counterfeit products including spare car parts, electronic devices, clothes, cosmetics and accessories were confiscated from shops across the UAE capital

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development reportedly said that over 31,000 inspections were carried out under the department’s Commercial Protection Division, which aims to stop illegal business practices and protect consumer rights and intellectual property rights.

The division conducted 15,126 inspections in Abu Dhabi city, 10,860 in Al Ain and 5,339 in Al Dhafra region. A total of 3,234 items were confiscated in Abu Dhabi city and 5,914 in Al Ain.

Rashed Al Balooshi, undersecretary of ADDED reportedly said that the department was doubling its efforts to protect consumers and improve Abu Dhabi’s business climate by ensuring that companies operate in a competitive and sustainable environment.

The number of seized goods during the second quarter of the year decreased by about 150 compared to the same period last year indicating only a slight improvement.
