Copyright Commission Raids Film Pirates in Bauchi, Arrests 6 Suspects

October 10, 2016 — According to a report from the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), the agency on September 28, 2016, raided suspected film pirates at Railway Road in Bauchi. The NCC also arrested six suspects during the raid.

Disclosing this at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the Director Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Augustine Amodu said, a total of 1,611 suspected pirated DVDs and 2,200 empty packets used in packaging pirated DVDs worth over N300,000 was confiscated from the suspects.

The enforcement raid against the suspected film pirates was carried out by a team of Copyright Inspectors backed by armed policemen.

Speaking on the raid, the Bauchi Liaison Manager, NCC, Mr. Vincent Oyefeso stated that the outcome of the raid was a product of strategic planning and surveillance. He added that the suspects were granted administrative bail while further investigation is ongoing.

He also stated that the Commission in this new offensive will not relent in its effort until the activities of suspected pirates is stamped out of the state and its environs.
