The east China Jiangsu province police, late last year, arrested 158 people suspected of manufacturing and selling fake cosmetics.

Following the raid on December 26, 2018 by the police after a tip-off by a consumer about skin problems associated with the use of the product, 800 boxes of fake cosmetics worth 10,000 million yuan (1.49 million U.S. dollars) were seized.

Fourteen warehouses and a factory that stored and manufactured the fake cosmetics were sealed by police.

According to the police, the counterfeit products were sold at a cheaper rate online over the original products sold in stores.

An official with the Nanjing municipal public security bureau, Li Kerong, reportedly stated that the industrial materials used in the factory’s production was not good for the skin. Kerong added that the heavy metal ingredients contained in the fake cosmetics were 10 times higher than the national standard.
