Addressing Double Standards in Software Piracy War

One reason the war on software piracy in the world and in extension Nigeria remains an unending one could be said to be due to the practice of double standard, writes Ojo Maduekwe. All over the world, legally and morally, software piracy remains wrong and continues to be a fight between product manufacturers with the backing of affected countries judiciary and government law enforcement agencies and pirates. Organisations like Microsoft invest billions of dollars yearly to fund this fight, with no end in sight. According to a 2011 software piracy global study conducted by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) in partnership with IDC and Ipsos Public Affairs, the United States at 19 per cent and Zimbabwe at 92 per cent are the countries with the least and highest incidences of software piracy rates in the world.
